Covercrete FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions
 about COVERCRETE Products:

Is floor surface preparation required on all floors ?

Yes. This varies depending on condition, contamination, material on floor, type of floor (concrete, wood, etc).  A method which cleans and profiles the substrate is preferred.

What type of floors can be provided?

This depends on the customer needs.  Description of type floor and characteristics desired is needed such as the following:
Smooth                               Non skid
Type traffic                         Color
Chemical protection            Absorb impact
Wide temperature range       Food processing
Drainage trench lining           Meat processing
Vertical application               Heavy duty
Thickness required               Freezer area
Poultry processing
Brick floors, degreased, shot blasted & coated

What type of finish provides greater non-skid protection?

Broadcast finish provides a rough finish that is more non-skid.  The size and type of aggregate can determine extent of roughness and profile of finished floor surface.

Can a smooth floor be provided for food processing applications?

Yes

Are the floor toppings all the same?

Each of the floor toppings use the same Polyurethane technology for all types with varying aggregate and application methods.  Each type has excellent flexural strength.  A topcoat can be applied where sealing is essential.

Describe the HD type & its purpose:

HD is heavy duty 1/4” to 3/8” thick for heavy mechanical traffic, constant chemical attack and thermal shock, varying degrees of slip resistance is required, easy cleaning required, floor will stand high pressure hot water or steam cleaning. Installed cost is variable and depends on preparation required before application and if topcoat sealing is needed.

Describe SLB type & its purpose:

SLB is self-leveling with or without broadcast.  Thickness is 1/4”.  Applied in heavy traffic areas, areas requiring slip resistance, or areas with constant chemical and thermal attack.

Describe SL type and its purpose:

SL is self-leveling, smooth, has very fine aggregate and is 3/16” to 1/4” thick. It is used where smooth surfaces and easy cleaning are essential or where esthetics is important or desired.

Describe SLQ and its purpose:

SLQ is SLB with color blended quartz and similar in characteristic, thickness and purpose. Most use SLB only.

Describe V and its purpose:

V is for vertical applications like posts, columns, equipment base supports, pit and drainage trench lining, perimeter coving and thickness is 3/16”. Calculations are based on a linear foot basis rather than a square foot basis.

Describe TF type and its purpose:

TF is for use to provide a tough floor, 25-30 mils thick.  10 mils may be applied over the SLB system.  Used for light to medium traffic and where varying degrees of slip resistance are needed.

List some of the requirements these floors meet and major advantages of the Polyurethane systems.

The following list indicates some of the major attributes and advantages.  Many of these make for a cost effective, and long lasting system.

         Minimum time available for preparation,
         Low down time, operations return/commerce
           within 12 hours of application,
         No odor,
         Rapid cure,
         Primers and sealers require more down time;
             not required by this system,
         Absorbs impacts and distributes energy
             throughout system,
         Meets most regulatory compliance,
Coefficient of expansion is similar to concrete,
Will not delaminate under thermally induced
stresses, such as steam or pressure cleaning,
Protection against caustics, organic and inorganic
             acids, solvents, and most chemicals
Non-toxic, non-tainting, ordorless, not irritable to
             personnel,
Adjacent work areas kept in production during
             application,
Provides solid covering with no joints,
Resistance to bacteria growth including E. Coli,
             Salmonella, Listeria and Campylobacter,
Is temperature tolerant; has elasticity over a
temperature range of -50 to 200 degre
es F.

Are different colors available and what are the standard colors?

The standard colors are Red, Grey, Cream, and Blue.
Custom colors are available subject to minimum orders.   (See color chart in Covercrete section.)
